CHARLOTTE – Northwood Ravin is once again partnering with TreesCharlotte as a Poplar planting season partner. TreesCharlotte is a Charlotte based non-profit dedicated to grow, diversify, steward, and educate about Charlotte’s trees and iconic urban forest.   

As a Poplar planting season partner, Northwood Ravin will participate in a TreeDay planting where they will plant 68 trees at Long Creek Greenway. The Northwood Ravin team will also engage in a TreeWalk experience and a Lunch and Learn about the importance of the continued health and well-being of Charlotte’s tree canopy.  

TreesCharlotte Executive Director Allison Rhodes said, “Our work would not be possible without the dedication and generosity of corporate partners like Northwood Ravin.”  

47.3% of Charlotte’s land was covered with tree canopy in 2022, this number is expected to drop to 40% by 2050, TreesCharlotte is dedicated to preventing this devastation. In a study of the urban tree canopy conducted by PlanIT Geo for the City of Charlotte and TreesCharlotte, researchers found that in just four years Charlotte lost 1000-acres of canopy, the size of the UNC Charlotte campus.  

Northwood Ravin is also working towards protecting Charlotte’s trees. One of their newest properties, The Sloan at LoSo, is in a tree-save area. The Sloan has more mature trees on site than any new project in all of South End or Lower South End.  

“As our city faces potential canopy loss, the support Northwood Ravin offers is crucial for the protection of our beloved tree canopy,” said Rhodes. “We look forward to their hands-on volunteer commitment as well as the financial support they have extended for the past two planting seasons.”

Hurricane Helene brought devastation to the Carolinas in late September, specifically the western part of the states. The mountain towns of North Carolina were destroyed by the storm, and many will never be the same. 

The silver lining to the destruction lies with how quick neighbors in the Tar Heel State were to help each other. One of these efforts comes from the biggest names in country music coming together to form the Concert for Carolina.  

To support those impacted by Hurricane Helene, Northwood Ravin collected donations for Operation Airdrop in the lobbies of all North Carolina properties and at the corporate office. Northwood Ravin is also giving away two tickets to Concert for Carolina; you can enter the giveaway at The Lodges at Fort Mill website. 

Concert for Carolina will take place on October 26, 2024, at Bank of America in Charlotte. Headliners include Luke Combs, Eric Church, Billy Strings, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban and Bailey Zimmerman. Combs and Church are Western North Carolina natives, and both attended Appalachian State University in Boone, one of the many towns impacted by the storm.  

Tepper Sports & Entertainment donated Bank of America Stadium for the concert and all proceeds from the concert will support relief efforts in the Carolina area. Concert for Carolina supports Chief Cares, Manna Foodbank, Second Harvest Foodbank NWNC and Samaritan’s Purse.  

Northwood Ravin encourages all who can to donate time, goods or money to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

Donation Boxes Now Available at Select Properties

At Northwood Ravin, we believe in supporting our communities, especially during times of crisis. In light of the recent impact of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, we are launching a relief initiative to help those affected by the disaster.

Starting today, we are placing donation boxes in the lobbies of the following properties:

• Uptown 550
• 500 West Trade
• The Village at Commonwealth
• Providence Row
• Pinehurst
• The Sloan at Loso
• Holly Crest
• Townhomes at Bridlestone

These donation boxes will collect essential items, including:

• Non-perishable food items
• Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, formula, etc.)
• Hygiene products (toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc.)
• Pet food (dog and cat)

We encourage our residents, staff, and visitors to come together and contribute what they can to this important cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference for families and their pets in need.

Donations will be accepted during business hours at each property through 11 am, Friday, October 4th and Northwood Ravin will deliver all collected items to a central hub in Hickory, NC, where they will be distributed to the affected families.
