A Journey from Apprentice to Full-Time Team Member
We’re thrilled to mark a significant milestone in our partnership with She Built This City (SBTC) by celebrating one of our very own, Ashleigh Elliott. Over the past two years, Ashleigh has been a vital part of our Northwood Ravin team at Uptown 550 in Charlotte, NC. We’re excited to announce that she has officially graduated from SBTC’s Maintenance Apprenticeship Program and has accepted a full-time position with Northwood Ravin as a permanent member of The Nest.
SBTC’s mission is to offer transformative programs that ignite interest and create pathways to fulfilling careers in the skilled trades for youth, women, and marginalized communities. They strive to dismantle barriers and challenge stereotypes in traditionally male-dominated industries through innovative approaches, paving the way for future job opportunities.
Their commitment, known as 50/50 by 2030, aims to achieve gender equity in the trades. This initiative not only seeks to boost the number of women in these fields but also addresses the challenges and obstacles that hinder individuals from fully participating.
Ashleigh’s Journey
Ashleigh’s path with Northwood Ravin began through SBTC’s Maintenance Apprenticeship Program, which offers hands-on experience and professional development. For two days a week, Ashleigh immersed herself in our operations, seamlessly integrating into the Northwood Ravin team. Her dedication and eagerness to learn were apparent from the start, quickly making her an integral part of our team. Her growth throughout the program has been remarkable.

From day one, the entire team embraced and accepted me wholeheartedly, despite being on an all-male team. Their efforts to ensure my integration and security were evident, making me feel valued and recognized for who I am. Even with limited days on site, their welcoming approach made it clear that Northwood Ravin was where I belonged. Securing a full-time position is a significant achievement, signifying my dedication and performance. I am sincerely grateful and eagerly anticipating the opportunities that lie ahead.”
